The life of a family in provincial West Germany in the 1980s is dominated by a single issue: the body weight of Cornelia, the wife and mother. Her husband Werner decides that she must lose weight, as he believes that otherwise he will jeopardise his promotion, his social advancement and the acceptance of the whole family in the village. Cornelia suffers increasingly from her husband’s obsession, whilst their daughter Ela is caught in the crossfire.In the 1980s, the life of a family in a small village is determined by just one issue: the mother's body weight. Her husband Werner decides that she needs to lose weight, Cornelia suffers as a result and their daughter Ela is caught in the middle.
