WHAT IS CINEFILE?

Cinefile is a Swiss film platform founded in 2018 that operates a comprehensive movie guide, a streaming service and a DVD/Blu-Ray rental service. 

The streaming selection ranges from the latest cinema hits to classics and is based on the motto "Only Good Movies": we deliberately limit the range to a maximum of 1000 entertainment and arthouse films and are constantly updating it. The five-strong selection team only selects films that are really worth seeing. All films are available in HD and original versions with freely selectable subtitles, some also in German or French dubbed versions.

The complete range is available with the free Basic registration for individual rental or in the Take 2/3/4 subscriptions, which include 2, 3 or 4 films per month or 12, 18 or 24 films per half-year with discounts of up to 50 percent.

The cinefile cinema guide offers a complete overview of the Swiss cinema program with all important information and reservation links for all films, including arthouse cinemas, film museums and open airs.

You can save all the cinema and streaming films that interest you in a personal watchlist.

CAN YOU STREAM CINEFILE ON THE BIG SCREEN?

With our TV app  you can select, bookmark, manage and watch our films directly on yourTV. The app is based on the Android TV operating system (Sony, Philips, Swisscom Box 5) and is available free of charge from the Google Play Store.) For other TV brands such as Samsung and LG, we recommend the inexpensive HDMI stick Google TV (approx. CHF 40.-), which is suitable for all TV sets and also makes the apps from Netflix, AppleTV, PlaySuisse, Disney+ etc. accessible. The stick will be available at a special price for our Take2/3/4 half-year subscribers from January 12, 2024. Further TV apps are in development.

A dedicated app is available for Android phones (Samsung, HTC, Sony, Google and many other brands) in the Google Play Store.

WHAT does the cinefile newsletter offer?

The free newsletter from cinefile provides free weekly information about our new releases and all important movie premieres with concise short reviews. With more than 13,000 subscribers,   is the largest weekly film newsletter in Switzerland.

WHAT DO THE FILMS COST INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A SUBSCRIPTION TO CINEFILE?

The individual rental fee for all streaming films is CHF 7.50, for Blu-Rays CHF 6.00 plus postage. Each rented film is available to you for a full week.

With the monthly or half-yearly discount packages Take 2, 3 or 4, the price per film drops from CHF 4.90 to CHF 3.50, depending on the subscription. All subscriptions can be changed, paused or canceled at any time with just one click.

HOW CAN I PAY ON CINEFILE?

You can pay for all individual rentals and subscriptions by credit card or TWINT.

HOW CAN YOU GIVE CINEFILE VOUCHERS AS A GIFT?

We offer online vouchers to the value of your choice. Each voucher can be used for subscriptions or the rental of individual films at your discretion.

Vouchers for half-year subscriptions Take 1-4 are available as high-quality gift cards.

CAN THE FILMS ALSO BE DOWNLOADED AND WATCHED OFFLINE?

No, cinefile films cannot be downloaded and watched offline.

CAN I INTERRUPT THE STREAMING?

Yes, you can interrupt the streaming of any movie as often as you like and also watch entire movies several times. However, the restriction is that each movie is available for a maximum of 48 hours after the first start of streaming.

CAN YOU ALSO USE CINEFILE ABROAD?

Yes, as long as you have deposited a Swiss payment method with us. We reserve the right to make individual exceptions to this rule.
